Company Profile

DeMars Pension Consulting Services, Inc. has been providing full-service employer sponsored retirement plan administration and consulting since 1979. DeMars Pension Consulting Services, Inc. assists employers in the design, implementation, administration and communication of a wide range of retirement plans. We are committed to providing these services to our clients in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner.

Our benefit professionals are dedicated to helping employers implement retirement plans that promote corporate goals and objectives, control costs and give employees a sense of security.

Our People

Our current staff of 37 employees has a combined experience of 735 years in the retirement planning industry. We have 11 plan administrators that average 25 years experience and an ERISA attorney with 28 years of experience. Our management and key plan administrative staff have substantial years of service with our company. They are committed to providing our clients with friendly, courteous and responsive personalized services of superior quality. DeMars Pension Consulting Services, Inc. is employee owned with fifteen employee stockholders.


Jim DeMars – President

Jim DeMars entered the retirement planning field in January 1969 and moved to the Kansas City area later that year. After working for two firms he founded DeMars Pension Consulting Services, Inc in June 1979. He is a consultant with more than 42 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Jim’s primary responsibility is consulting, plan design and marketing for the firm. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Dakota.


John Finn, J.D. – Vice President/Staff Attorney

John joined the firm in January 1986 and has 28 years of experience in the qualified plan market. His responsibilities include plan installation services, amendments and he serves as the Internal Revenue Service liaison. John researches compliance, legal and administration questions for staff, referral sources, and clients and processes plan terminations with the Internal Revenue Service and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. John has his Juris Doctorate and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Kansas. He is a member of the American Bar Association.


Joanne Trompeter – Vice President, QPA, QKA

Joanne’s responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans, including employee stock ownership plans and profit sharing 401(k) plans. She joined the firm in January 1988 and has 39 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Joanne has her Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator designations from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).


Cyndi Johnson – Vice President, Human Resources/Business Operations

Cyndi’s responsibilities include human resource management and overall business management. She joined the firm in June 1993 and has 32 years of experience with pension consulting firms. Cyndi has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration/Computer Applications and a Masters of Arts in Human Resource Management from Ottawa University of Kansas City. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).


Susan Joslin – Senior Pension Administrator/Corporate Secretary

Susan’s responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans, including employee stock ownership plans and profit sharing 401(k) plans. She joined the firm in October 1984 and has 32 years of experience in the qualified plan market.


Tim Heffel – Retirement Plan Service Representative

Tim joined the firm in September 1997 and has 26 years of experience in the qualified plan market. His responsibilities include client servicing, data gathering, delivering annual valuations and conducting 401(k) enrollment meetings. Tim has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kansas State University.


Peter DeMars – Retirement Plan Service Representative

Peter joined the firm in December 2004 and has 10 years of experience in the qualified plan market. His responsibilities include client servicing, delivering annual valuations and gathering data in regards to retirement plan conversions. Peter has a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from the University of Kansas.


Kimberly Barmann – Senior Pension Administrator

Kim joined the firm in January 1988 and has 27 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include actuarial and administration of defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, plan terminations and profit sharing 401(k) plan. Kim has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bethany College.


Catherine Pelfrey – Senior Pension Administrator

Cathy joined the firm in January 1991 and has 32 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans, including employee stock ownership plans and profit sharing 401(k) plans.


Daryl Kravitz – Senior Pension Administrator, QPA, QKA

Daryl joined the firm in January 1991 and has 26 years of experience in the qualified plan market. His responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in profit sharing 401(k) plans and the design of cross-tested plans. Daryl has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Daryl has his Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designations from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).


Linda Peck – Pension Administrator, QPA, QKA

Linda joined the firm in March 1995 and has 28 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in profit sharing 401(k) plans. Linda has her Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designations from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).


Janice Long – Pension Administrator, QPA, QKA

Jan joined the firm in January 1996 and has 29 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in the administration of profit sharing 401(k) plans. Jan has her Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA) and Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA) designations from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).


Hedy Devero-Beil – Pension Administrator

Hedy joined the firm in March 1997 and has 30 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in the administration of profit sharing 401(k) plans. Hedy has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.


Arlene Wilder – Pension Administrator

Arlene joined the firm in May 2004 and has 19 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in profit sharing 401(k) plans. Arlene has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management/Accounting from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, Iowa.


Andy Mich - Pension Administrator, QPA, QKA

Andy joined the firm in September 2003 and has 7 years of experience in the qualified plan market. His responsibilities include pension administration and reconciliation of investment activity for completion of Annual Valuations. Andy also provides technical support to computer systems management. He has a Masters of Accountancy from Truman State University.


Charlene Michaelis - Pension Administrator

Charlene joined the firm in April 2010 and has 11 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include pension administration services for defined contribution plans with an emphasis in 401(k) plans.


Mark Mallory – Strategic Alliances Manager

Mark supports sales efforts and provides broker and referral source education. He is responsible for setting up new plans and the conversion of existing plans to new daily valuation platforms. Mark joined the firm in January 1997 and has 19 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Mark has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from Emporia State University. Mark holds the Accredited Pension Representative designation offered through the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA).


Robert Brown – Strategic Alliances Administrative Manager

Robert’s responsibilities include management of participant recordkeeping functions including daily contributions, investment splits, distributions, conversions and reconciliation of accounts. He joined the firm in November 2003 and has 22 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Bob has a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting/Human Resources from the University of Iowa and has his Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation.


Mary Sue Sheridan – Pension/Network Systems Manager

Mary Sue joined the firm in October 1984 and has 26 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include computer systems management utilizing a multi-user network and Relius pension software. Mary Sue custom designs trust/participant reports utilizing Crystal report writer.


Nancy Love – Trust Administration/Accounting Manager

Nancy joined the firm in June 1989 and has 22 years of experience in the qualified plan market. Her responsibilities include management of the Trust Administration department, gathering data from investment sources and reconciliation of investment activity for completion of Annual Valuations. In addition, she is responsible for the Accounting Department activities including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
